Week 2 of the 2010 Lent Build: Sweaty but Feeling Good

Leer esta entrada en español.

I joined a volunteer group from Union Church and the U.S. Embassy to participate in the Strengthening the Getsemani Community project.  This was not the first time I had gone on a Habitat build.  Indeed, I volunteered on numerous sites last year.  However, this was the first time that I worked in the Getsemaní community.

Our volunteers worked on three houses that day.  The house where I was stationed was only in the very earliest stage of its construction, and my job was to mix and prepare the concrete to be used in its foundation.  It was hard work, and it left a few blisters.  Throughout the course of the morning and into the early afternoon, we mixed six batches of concrete and managed to complete the entire foundation.

At the end of the day, we took a quick break under the shade of the massive trees and then prepared to leave.  We all went home tired (some slept on the bus), sweaty and a little sore, but nonetheless feeling very accomplished and good about our day.
